Case File: The Stolen Painting

Detective Brad arrived at the city art gallery. A famous painting was stolen at night. First, he had to seal off the room so no one could touch the clues. Detective Smith helped him examine the scene carefully.

They used a magnifying glass and found a strand of hair on the floor. They also found a fingerprint on the wall. They put these items in an evidence bag. Then, Brad looked at the broken window. He noticed that the broken glass was on the outside of the building.

Brad thought about the logic. If the broken glass is on the outside, the window was broken from the inside. This meant the thief was already inside the gallery before it closed. The suspect might be a security guard or someone hiding inside.

Later, Farmer Jack called the police. He said that someone stole his tractor. He told the police that no one was in the field, but he found a footprint near the gate. Brad compared the footprint from the gallery with the footprint from the farm. They were similar, but not the same.
